This will be a mish-mash of things I can think of.......

No-one.

I guess that something like IVFDF (although I may seem old and raddled, I
am merely nearing middle age - must be, last time I went to Boots it was
for Athletes foot cream, pikle ointment and corn plasters) as with all
festivals grows according to the expectation and wishes of the
participants.

Clearly by the late '70's and early '80's there were enough "university"
teams/societies for IVFDF to expand (maybe even as a result of seeing what
had happened to similar folk festivals). Whether this is sustainable now
is another matter. Yet again, I certainly remember being on morris tours
in the mid '80's where there were at least three bus loads of University
teams, and apparently in the early '80's enough rapper teams for two
tours, never mind the morris sides.

I think this all ties in with the sites problem. If there aren't enough
students for the societies to exist, then the unions (however nice or
nasty they may be) aren't really going to be interested. To be frank my
impressions of Glasgow were that they were not particularly interested
(remember folks, they probably think of us as a bunch of wan*ers), but
they did seem to be happy during and after the event. But I guess they
wouldn't welcome us back with open arms.

So I guess I'm stating the obvious. What is needed is more students
involved. At any level. Are people like most of us (who aren't students)
the problem. (Yes, yes I realise that things are too big for students to
take on etc. - maybe it does need to scale down.)

There's probably more gibberings of this ilk to come after Easter, but
I've got to go off and filter some solutions......
