Hello :)
As intimated in a message to ivfdf-discussion I am writing to you all as
we would appreciate it if the train (the Dancing Devonian) that is being
organised down to IVFDF 2009 in Exeter were, to an extent, subsidised by
Central IVFDF funds. We believe that, as suggested in Ian's recent report
on the financial standing of Central IVFDF, it would be a good use of
funds to encourage and make more available transport to IVFDF's,
particularly to more distant ones and even more so from distant member
societies.
The following proposal needs to be seconded by (I believe) four
other member societies (you do not need to agree with it, just agree that
it should be discussed - your ability to freely vote on it later is not
impaired). This will allow the proposal to be discussed and changed, if
that is deemed wise.
Therefore I am writing on behalf of Edinburgh University New Scotland
Country Dance Society to propose an electronic vote on the following
motion:
That the Dancing Devonian be subsidised to the tune of 2000 pounds from
Central IVFDF funds.
Issues I can see that might need discussed include (but are not limited
to):
The level of subsidy,
What would happen to surplus funds if the Dancing Devonian makes a profit
(unlikely in my opinion but I would suggest any surplus go back to Central
IVFDF funds),
Whether the use of the funds should be limited (for examples, used to
reduce ticket costs for dancers only, used to subsidise smaller or more
distant travellers only),
Whether this proposal should be seen as a model for future subsidising of
travel expenses for attendees of future IVFDF's.
If you four other members societies can second this proposal we can get
the ball rolling for the discussion, please remember to state for which
member society you are speaking for when seconding.
Thank you for your time,
Johann Bryant
