[ivfdf-news] Invitations for candidates for role of IVFDF Treasurer
IVFDF Central Treasurer

Dear All,
As some of you may know I have been the Treasurer of Central IVFDF for
just under 6 years since I was elected at IVFDF 2004 in Exeter. The post
is a 3 year role, with a maximum term of 9 years. I have decided that as
I have a new family member (currently 3months old), am no longer
actively involved in a student dance group, and cannot guarantee to
attend *every* IVFDF as would be needed for my role, that I will not be
seeking to continue as the Treasurer of Central IVFDF after the next
Representatives Meeting at IVFDF 2010 in Durham.
The role comes with significant responsibility - the custodianship of
the IVFDF Central funds (over £10,000) and ensuring that IVFDF remains
both a viable continuing event and acting as the Representative of IVFDF
Central to those outside IVFDF, so it is important that we as IVFDF
collectively through the Representatives Meeting select a suitably
experienced candidate.
To that end I am writing to IVFDF-news to invite interested candidates
to put their names forward in advance of the Representative Meeting at
IVFDF 2010 in Durham, where the election of Treasurer will occur. In
this way we can make societies aware of who is standing in advance and
they will be able to express any views to their representatives
attending the meeting.
As a potential candidate, whilst it is not essential that you are
attending this year (last year we elected the Archivist in absentia), I
would comment that previously the Representatives meeting has not
elected people who have put their names forward for the Information
Point/Treasurer role in absentia.
My own experience is that the role is on the whole not a particularly
heavy word load, however there are times when a significant amount of
activity is required in a short time-scale, and it is important to be
able to respond rapidly to such issues when they arise; clearly you must
be in a position to attend IVFDF each year. Details of the mandatory
requirements of the role are listed in the IVFDF Constitution
http://www.ivfdf.org/Constitution#10._OFFICERS
I would highlight that as Treasurer you cannot take part in any active
festival so if think there is a possibility that you might want to be
involved in running an instance IVFDF in the future please bear this
mind. Also there is an expectation that you have experience of attending
IVFDF and know how it runs and is organised. If anyone wants to find out
more about the role I am more than happy to speak to anyone informally
about what is involved.
Whilst there is nothing in either standing orders or constitution about
where the candidate is geographically located I believe it would be
prudent that there remains a spread of people from different member
societies/member society areas in the 3 roles of IVFDF Central.
Currently the other IVFDF Central Officers are
Archivist = John Brown - based in Sheffield
Development Officer = James Bennett - previously of Exeter
If you are interested please get in touch with me in the first instance
and I will post a list of people who have put their names forward to
IVFDF-news approximately 2 weeks before the festival.
Regards
Ian
